Kaabo Mantis Pro SE — Speed, Range, and More

The Kaabo Mantis Pro SE is a high-performance electric scooter designed for adults who want to enjoy fast and comfortable rides in urban environments. With a powerful motor, dual suspension, and large wheels, this scooter can reach speeds of up to 40 mph and handle various terrains with ease.

The Pro SE version of the Mantis series comes with upgraded features, including a stronger motor, improved battery life, and enhanced braking system. In this review, we will take a closer look at the Mantis Pro SE and explore its features, performance, and overall value for money.

The Kaabo Mantis Pro SE is an electric scooter with an impressive acceleration rate. Powered by dual 60V 1000W motors, it can go from 0 to 15 mph in only 2 seconds, which is one of the fastest rates on the market. If you need even more speed, it can reach 0 to 25 mph in just 4.1 seconds, providing an exhilarating ride.

This level of torque and acceleration is due to the powerful motors that are built into the scooter. With such an incredible acceleration rate, the Mantis Pro SE is a great choice for those who want a fast and exciting ride.

The Mantis Pro SE boasts an impressive range of up to 37 miles on a single charge, making it a great option for longer rides or commutes. However, achieving this range may require riding in the scooter’s “Eco” mode, and the actual mileage can vary depending on how much you use the throttle.

Compared to other Manti models, the Pro SE has a longer range than the Base, but it falls slightly short of the original Mantis Pro’s 45-mile range. Nonetheless, the Pro SE’s range is still a significant improvement over many other electric scooters on the market.

Hill Climb

The Mantis Pro SE and its predecessor are both great at handling hills. They can climb inclines up to 30 degrees, which is impressive for scooters. When compared to similar models, the only scooter that outperforms the Mantis Pro SE in hill climbing is the VSETT 10+ (20.8Ah).

This is due to the 10+ having a pair of powerful motors that allow it to climb absurd inclines up to 35 degrees. Nonetheless, the Mantis Pro SE still holds up well in this category and is a top performer in its class.

The Mantis Pro SE comes equipped with dual front and rear springs, similar to its predecessor. The red coils are tightly packed and highly adjustable, allowing you to tailor the pre-load to your body weight. This gives you the freedom to adjust your suspension to your liking, ensuring a smooth and comfortable ride even on rough terrain.

The air-filled pneumatic tires also help absorb shock and provide additional cushioning, making sure you don’t feel every bump on the road. All of these features work together to deliver a highly comfortable and smooth ride, regardless of the terrain you encounter.

Braking System

This scooter has top-of-the-line stopping power thanks to its fully hydraulic, hand-operated Zoom disc brakes. While most scooters in the SE’s price range have dual disc brakes, only around 31% have the superior hydraulic setup. Luckily, the Pro SE is one of them, making it one of the best options for those who prioritize safety.

The brakes are highly responsive and can bring the scooter to a complete stop within 3 meters from 15 mph, rivaling even the Wolf King, which is known for its incredible stopping power. Additionally, the Pro SE features a regenerative braking system that helps to conserve battery life and an ABS system that prevents wheels from locking up and causing skids.

If you engage the ABS system, you’ll feel a vibrating and shuddering sensation when you brake hard, ensuring that you stay in control even during emergency stops.

Charging Time

The Mantis Pro SE has a recharge time of just over 12 hours, which is a bit faster than its predecessor, the original Mantis Pro, that takes around 16 hours to fully charge. This is due to the SE’s battery being slightly smaller in size. However, if you have a fast charger, the charging time can be reduced to between 4 and 5 hours, so you can be back on the road in no time.

It’s worth considering investing in a fast charger if you’re looking for quicker charging times, especially if you’re planning to use your scooter regularly and don’t want to wait too long before taking it out for a ride.

The Mantis Pro SE’s folding mechanism is convenient and secure. The scooter folds in half at the base of the stem with two quick-release buckles that tighten the locking ring into place. This eliminates stem wobble that was present in earlier Mantis Pro versions. Although it takes some time to fold and unfold the scooter, it is simple to do after a few attempts.

The stem bolt is stronger and more reliable than the Mantis Pro, ensuring the stem remains stable when locked into place. The latch on the back of the handlebars that locks the stem to the deck via a small hook makes maneuvering the scooter when folded far easier than similar performance scooters that don’t lock into place.

However, the Mantis Pro SE is still quite heavy to be used for multimodal journeys and not ideal for prolonged carrying.

The handlebars of the Kaabo Mantis Pro SE are wide, ergonomic, and made of a durable alloy that promises both comfort and reliability. They also come equipped with foam hand grips, which are known to be more susceptible to wear and tear than rubber grips, but are a standard feature on all Mantis models.

The handlebars are home to all the buttons needed to operate the scooter, including those for activating lights, changing the riding mode, and engaging the motors. Additionally, the hand-operated hydraulic brakes are located on both sides of the handlebars, and the EY3 MiniMotors display serves as both a display screen and finger throttle.

This display provides important information such as speed, battery life, and distance traveled, and offers a variety of additional features to enhance the riding experience.

The Kaabo Mantis Pro SE takes a more playful approach to its frame design compared to the original Mantis Pro. While the frame remains predominantly matte black, the SE model adds red and gold accents to inject some personality into its appearance. Red accents can be found on the springs and tire treads, while the swingarms are finished in an eye-catching gold hue.

These touches of color give the scooter a unique look that is sure to turn heads as you ride by. Despite the added flair, the overall design remains sleek and stylish, making the Mantis Pro SE a scooter that not only performs well but also looks great.

The Kaabo Mantis Pro SE features a spacious deck that measures 23 inches in length and 8.5 inches in width, providing ample space for riders to comfortably place their feet. The raised rear of the deck acts as a kickplate, offering extra traction and grip for riders who want to lean into the ride at high speeds.

The top of the deck is coated with anti-slip rubber that is securely fastened to the deck but can be peeled up at the edges for easy access to the battery. The thick deck adds to the scooter’s durability, and a small hook at the end of the deck allows the handlebars to lock into place when folded, making it easy to lift and transport. The deck’s design ensures maximum comfort, safety, and convenience for riders.

The Kaabo Mantis Pro SE’s 10-inch pneumatic tires are one of the standout features of this electric scooter. Filled with air, these tires work in tandem with the dual spring suspension to absorb shocks and vibrations on rough terrain. This combination creates a smooth and comfortable ride, even on off-road surfaces.

However, in wetter off-road conditions, the short rear fender may not provide adequate coverage, resulting in mud splatters on the rider’s back. Nonetheless, the wide, shock-absorptive tires are a significant improvement over solid rubber or foam tires and contribute to the Pro SE’s exceptional performance and ride quality.

The Mantis Pro SE’s lighting system is stylish, but not very practical. The front and rear button lights are embedded in the deck, which looks cool but doesn’t provide much illumination for the road ahead. The lights appear to be more of a design feature than a safety feature, as they don’t make the rider more visible to others on the road.

Unfortunately, the SE also lacks a headlight, which makes it unsuitable for nighttime riding. This is especially frustrating because the SE had the opportunity to add a headlight but didn’t. Despite the lack of practical lighting, the LED [1] strip adds a touch of style to the scooter, much like the impressive lighting systems seen on other scooters.

Build Quality

The Mantis Pro SE is not just a flashy upgrade to the original scooter, but a significant improvement in its design and construction. The scooter is made of aviation-grade aluminum alloy, which is sturdy and durable, ensuring a long-lasting lifespan. Unlike the previous Mantis Pro, the SE has resolved some issues that affected the ride quality and comfort of the earlier version.

The bolts securing the motor hubs have been lengthened, and their depth has been increased to prevent shearing, which was a common problem in the original. Furthermore, the stem wobble issue has been resolved by reinforcing the moving parts at the base of the stem, making the ride safer.

However, one area where the Pro SE falls short is in water resistance. Most of its competitors have IP water resistance certifications, making it a missed opportunity for Kaabo to improve its offering.

Quality of the Ride

One thing you don’t have to worry about when riding a Kaabo Mantis Pro SE is comfort. With its adjustable suspension system and shock-absorbing 10-inch pneumatic tires, the SE is an ideal ride for both urban commuting and light off-road adventures. The suspension system ensures a smooth ride, while hydraulic brakes provide reliable stopping power.

In addition, the SE’s reinforced kickplate offers excellent traction and comfort, especially when speeding down hills. Overall, the Mantis Pro SE is a top-of-the-line scooter that prioritizes rider comfort, making it a great choice for anyone looking for a smooth and enjoyable ride.

If you’re considering buying a Mantis Pro SE, it’s important to note that this scooter is exclusively available through Voro Motors and comes with a one-year warranty covering any manufacturer defects. However, it’s worth keeping in mind that the Pro SE doesn’t have a water resistance rating, which means it’s not suitable for riding in the rain.

While the Pro SE is an upgrade over the Pro and Base models, which come with a six-month warranty from FluidFreeRide, you’ll need to take extra care to ensure your Pro SE stays in good working order if you ride it in wet conditions.

Is the Kaabo Mantis Pro SE’s Price Tag Worth iIt?

If you’re in the market for an electric scooter, the Mantis Pro SE is definitely worth considering. With a base price of $1,899, it’s $400 cheaper than the original Mantis Pro and offers almost all the same specs and features. Plus, the SE has improved on the original design by reinforcing the stem to prevent wobbling and increasing the depth of the motor and bolts to prevent shearing.

It also has added gold touches on the handlebars and swingarms, and an electrifying blue deck light for extra style. The only area where the original Pro outperforms the SE is in range, but that can be remedied by opting for the 24Ah version. Compared to other competitors, the Mantis Pro SE offers better value for your money, with only the VSETT 10+ (20.8Ah) coming close to its specs and features.

When compared to the Mantis Base model, the Pro SE is faster, has better brakes, and a larger range.

Can Heavy Riders Use the Kaabo Mantis Pro SE?

The Kaabo Mantis Pro SE is designed to accommodate riders of different sizes and weights, with a maximum weight capacity of 400 lbs. However, it’s important to note that the weight of the rider may affect the scooter’s speed and range. Heavy riders may experience a slightly lower top speed and reduced range compared to lighter riders due to the increased load on the scooter’s motor and battery.

Nonetheless, heavy riders can still use the Kaabo Mantis Pro SE, but they should keep in mind its weight limit and potential impact on performance.

Who Should Purchase the Kaabo Mantis Pro SE?

The Kaabo Mantis Pro SE is a top-notch scooter that has impressed everyone who has tried it. It’s not a beginner’s scooter due to its high price and advanced performance, but it’s also not an extreme scooter that can reach up to 40 mph. Instead, it falls somewhere in between these categories, making it the perfect choice for those who want to upgrade from their first scooter or want to experience a more exciting ride.

However, it’s also suitable for first-time owners who have used ride-sharing scooters before and are looking for a better experience. So, if you’re looking to add some more excitement to your rides, the Mantis Pro SE is an excellent choice.

Is the Kaabo Mantis Pro SE Water Resistant?

The Kaabo Mantis Pro SE’s water resistance is a bit unclear as there is no official IP rating listed by Voromotors. However, there are reports from some sources that suggest an unofficial IPX4 rating. Some owners have mentioned that they rode the scooter in light rain without experiencing any issues.

Nevertheless, it’s recommended to avoid riding in wet conditions as much as possible, and when cleaning the scooter, avoid hosing it. It’s essential to take good care of your scooter to ensure it lasts a long time and continues to function properly, especially when it comes to water resistance.

How Does Kaabo Mantis Pro SE Perform Compared to Other Scooters?

Kaabo Mantis Pro SE Versus Kaabo Mantis and Kaabo Mantis Pro

One of the main differences between the Kaabo Mantis and the Kaabo Mantis Pro SE is where they are sold. The Kaabo Mantis Pro SE is sold exclusively by Voromotors, while FluidFreeRide sells the Kaabo Mantis (or the Kaabo Mantis fluid version). Another difference is in the battery choices.

The Kaabo Mantis sold at FluidFreeRide comes with two battery options – a Base 17.5 Ah battery that has a range of up to 30 miles (48 km), and a Pro 24.5 Ah battery with a range of up to 45 miles (72 km). It’s worth noting that both versions have similarities in terms of design and performance, and choosing between them ultimately depends on individual preferences and needs.

Kaabo Mantis Pro SE Versus Zero 10X

If you’re in the market for a powerful electric scooter, you may be wondering whether to choose the Kaabo Mantis Pro SE or the Zero 10X. While the Zero 10X has an advantage in terms of its climbing ability, it comes at a higher price point and with a heavier weight and smaller weight limit. Moreover, the Mantis and the Zero 10X have the same range and top speed, making the Mantis a more affordable option.

Zero 10X

Ultimately, the choice between these two scooters depends on your specific needs and preferences. If you prioritize climbing ability, the Zero 10X may be the better choice, but if you want a high-performing scooter that won’t break the bank, the Mantis Pro SE could be the way to go.

Kaabo Mantis Pro SE Versus Inokim OXO

The Inokim OXO and the Kaabo Mantis Pro SE are both high-quality electric scooters, but the Inokim OXO is significantly more expensive than the Mantis Pro SE. While both scooters have the same top speed, the Inokim OXO has more powerful motors on paper, but that doesn’t necessarily mean better performance.

Surprisingly, the Inokim OXO even has a slightly lower climb angle. However, the Inokim OXO has a significant advantage in terms of range. With a range of 68 mi or 100 km, it has almost double the range of the Kaabo Mantis Pro SE, and it only weighs around 9 lbs or 4 kg more.

If you prioritize range and are comfortable with spending more money, the Inokim OXO is definitely worth considering as it’s one of the best electric scooters on the market today.

Kaabo Mantis Pro SE Versus Apollo Ghost

If you’re in the market for a mid-priced scooter with strong performance, both the Kaabo Mantis Pro SE and the Apollo Ghost are great options. The differences between them are subtle, with the Apollo Ghost being slightly slower and having about 6 mi or 10 km less range, but it’s also about $100 cheaper.

Apollo Ghost

Both scooters weigh about the same, but the Kaabo Mantis Pro SE has a higher weight limit, making it a better option for heavier riders. If you’re looking for a great performing scooter but want to save a bit of money, the Apollo Ghost is a solid choice that performs similarly to the Kaabo Mantis Pro SE.

Kaabo Mantis Pro SE Versus Varla Eagle One

The Varla Eagle One and Kaabo Mantis Pro SE are incredibly similar scooters, with identical top speeds, range, weight limits, and other key features. The main differences between the two lie in their protection against water and their weight. The Varla Eagle One has an official IP54 rating for water and dust resistance, which is superior to the unofficial IPX4 rating of the Kaabo Mantis Pro SE.

However, the Kaabo Mantis Pro SE is significantly lighter, weighing about 11 lbs or 5 kg less than the Varla Eagle One. The Varla Eagle One has an advantage in climbing, making it better suited for those who need to navigate hilly terrain.

The Kaabo Mantis Pro SE is a mid-priced electric scooter that offers impressive performance, great quality, and a solid design. It has a top speed of 40 mph and a maximum range of 37 miles, making it suitable for daily commuting or leisurely rides.

While it lacks an official IP rating, it can handle some light rain, but it’s best to avoid riding in wet conditions. The Mantis Pro SE compares favorably to other mid-priced scooters in its category, offering similar or better performance at a lower price point. Overall, it’s a great choice for anyone looking for a high-performance electric scooter at a reasonable price.
