Xiaomi Mi M365 — Is it Worth it?

The Xiaomi Mi M365 is an electric scooter that is quickly becoming one of the most popular choices for commuters, students, and recreational riders. With a sleek design and impressive features, it is no surprise why people are choosing the Xiaomi Mi M365. This review will cover the features, advantages, and disadvantages of the Xiaomi M365 so that you can make an informed decision on whether it is the right choice for you.

The Acceleration

The Xiaomi Mi M365 is powered by a brushless DC motor with a 250-watt continuous power output and a 500-watt peak power output. It can go from 0 to 24 km/h in a very impressive 6.3 seconds. This is almost 3 seconds faster than both the TurboAnt X7 Pro and the Hiboy Max V2, which are both entry-level scooters that cost less than $500.

Unlike a lot of new scooters on the market, the Xiaomi Mi M365 has a lot of articles and videos made by riders to help you improve and customize your ride. In fact, acceleration, top speed, and hill climbing capability can be increased with a simple firmware modification. Keep in mind that this change could also shorten the range and shorten the life of the battery.

But most users say that the drop in range is less than 10%, which isn’t much compared to the big boost in performance.

When You Climb a Hill

The M365 had acceptable hill climbing performance but was expected to slow down significantly on steep hills. You may need to help by kicking or walking the scooter, since it takes practice to get the scooter going on a hill and it may move slowly on the steepest hills if you just kick it.

The M365 can complete a hill climb test in 20.8 seconds with an average speed of 10.6 km/h. All scooters are tested with a 74 kg rider on the same 60 m hill with a 10% grade. This is a fairly steep and long-lasting climb.

The Braking System

The brakes on the Xiaomi Mi M365 are backed up by a rear disc brake and a front regenerative brake. This is a nice combination, as some other scooters in this price class have “dual braking” that includes a hand-activated brake and a foot brake, which are the worst performing.

The M365 has good stopping power. From 24 km/h, it can stop in 5 meters. This is about average for a scooter like this one that only has one disc brake.

The Portability

The Xiaomi Mi M365 is very light because it only weighs 12 kg. Depending on how fit you are, this is easy enough to carry up a few flights of stairs. If the handlebars could fold down, it would be called an ultraportable. The Xiaomi can be folded up to a small size that is 107 cm long, 43 cm wide, and 48 cm tall.

It is small enough to fit in the trunk of most cars or to fold up and bring on public transportation. The mechanism for folding is quick, works well, and is easy to use. To tighten, you pull up on a metal lever then rotate a safety collar to lock into place. The plastic collar prevents the folding lever from accidentally being pulled down during riding, so is an excellent and simply applied safety feature.

This folding mechanism feels very solid once it is locked into place. But other riders have said that a piece of aluminum in the mechanism can break when the handlebars are pushed hard forward, especially when coming to a stop. In newer models, this problem has been fixed.

The Cockpit

The cockpit is super clean and well designed, with excellent use of the 43 cm-wide space. The thumb throttle on the right handlebar is an all-time favorite because it is the most ergonomic and comfortable way to ride for long periods of time. The hand brake for both the front regenerative brake and the rear disc brake is on the left handlebar.

On the left handlebar is a friendly bell with a hammer that cleverly doubles as a locking latch to hook the stem to the fender so the bike is easier to carry. It’s a really intelligent, thoughtful design that keeps the handlebars from feeling cluttered. In the middle of the stem is a simple backlit display with four LEDs [1] that show how much battery life is left.

Power, lights, and riding mode are all controlled by a single button. Press the button once to turn the scooter on, and press it again to turn on the lights. Double-press the button to switch between eco (green light) and standard (white light) riding modes.

Because the display isn’t very big, you can use Xiaomi and other Bluetooth-enabled apps on your phone to check speed, distance traveled, and other important scooter data (available for both iOS and Android platforms). Depending on the app you choose, you can change your speedometer from metric to imperial units and see your odometer.

You can also turn on or off cruise control and change how strong the regenerative brake is. For this beginner scooter, the simple display actually works really well.

The Lights

The headlights and taillights of the Mi M365 are both made of LEDs. The front light is mounted high, which helps it shine farther and makes it easier to see. This is the best place for a headlight, and the way it is set back into the stem is very nice. The tiny rear tail light is mounted low on the fender and isn’t very bright, but it’s a nice touch because it lights up when you brake and lets other drivers know you’re slowing down.

For riding at night, you can add more lights to make it easier to see and safer. It’s important that you can see other people and that they can see you, too. Adding lights to your scooter and body is a sure way to stay safe(r) on the road.

The Tires

The Xiaomi Mi M365 has two air-filled tires that are each 21.6 cm in diameter. Flats are common with pneumatic tires, but the major pros of better grip and ride quality more than make up for this con.

Even though the M365 doesn’t have suspension, the air-filled tires make the ride more comfortable and cushioned than the combination of suspension and solid tires, like those on the Hiboy S2, which have 21.6 cm honeycomb tires that skate on the road rather than mold to it.

And flat tires aren’t that big of a deal, since most can be easily avoided or fixed with tire slime. You can also avoid flats by taking good care of your tires.

The Deck

The deck of the M365 is 45 cm by 14.6 cm, and it is 8.9 cm above the ground. The height from the deck to the handlebars is 95 cm, which is about average for this price range and is good for most riders. Since you’re moving close to the ground, it’s possible to bottom out when going over high curbs or ledges.

The Build Quality

Overall, the Mi M365 is one of the best-designed, most popular, and well-thought-out scooters in the world. It’s really strong. No rattles, no squeaks. It’s made of lightweight materials that feel more useful than durable, but the build quality is very good for the price.

There are so many phones that look like the Mi M365 on the market that they start to make the Mi M365 look less good. The frame has good welds, and the cables are neatly routed through grommets. The hand grips are made of rubber, just like the non-slip deck. The folding mechanism works well and keeps the scooter standing up without any trouble.

It folds at a good spot along the stem so that the joint doesn’t become a weak point where weight is put on it. Overall, it feels strong and safe, and the IP54 rating seems accurate given how well it is sealed.

The Quality of the Ride

The M365 has a confidence inspiring, comfortable ride. It’s very easy to hop on and ride this scooter without having to think too much. The display is very simple, and there’s only one button to control besides the easy-to-use brake and throttle. The steering feels good for this scooter’s 26.9 km/h speed.

While suspension would be appreciated, it’s definitely not expected at this price range and would also increase the scooter’s weight. The air-filled 21.6 cm tires moderately absorb small bumps in the road, providing decent traction and cornering ability, in spite of having an inflation spec of 50 psi.

However, this is not a scooter you’d want to take offroad, as you’ll get a good brain massage on rougher terrain. Even though it is made of featherweight materials, the frame feels very solid. You won’t hear any annoying motor whine or creak from the stem, as the ride is very silent and serene.

The hand grips are large and texturized with rubber nubs that are comfortable and easy to clean. It has one brake lever on the left handlebar that works both the front regenerative brake and the back disc brake.

cruise control of Xiaomi Mi M365

One thing to note is that there are two problems with the way Segway designed a single brake lever to control two brakes. First, if you adjust the brake cable to a normal level of tightness, the rear brake light switch no longer activates, which means that the regen braking does not activate.

Second, if you loosen the brake cable, the lever can be pulled far enough to turn on the brake light switch and the regen brake. However, the rider can no longer use two fingers on the lever and two fingers on the hand grip at the same time, because the lever will crush the other fingers before you have enough stopping power.
