Swagtron T5 Review (2024) — An Affordable Hoverboard For Beginners (2024)

The T5 is one of Swagtron’s flagship scooters. It’s a great beginner hoverboard for children to ride around for some fun. But hoverboards have risks attached. They may break after a while, lose power, or lack a manufacturer’s warranty. In our experts’ Swagtron T5 review, we will see if this top hoverboard delivers great performance at a pocket-friendly price tag.

Pros

Cons

Design

The Swagtron was released as an entry level hoverboard and one of the best hoverboards for kids. It has two small but robust wheels on each side and a deck in between. At first glance, the Swagtron T5 hoverboard looks like it might tip over, but it features self-balancing technology that keeps it upright at all times.

The T5’s design features Swagtron’s signature rim technology with strong spokes and the “S” in the middle. The tires are made of hard rubber and can resist most sharp objects without damage. The Swagtron deck also has the Urban Rider emblem inscribed into special non slip rubber surfaces that keep your feet firmly on the electric scooter.

One thing our team of experts loves about this board’s design is its sentry shield protection. Hoverboards have been known to explode in the past while charging or riding, and riders have become wary of them. Swagtron fixed this issue by creating a hoverboard safe enough for kids to ride.

This design review Swagtron would be incomplete if we didn’t also mention the beautiful customizations on this board. From the logo to the Swagtron emblazoned on the back, the manufacturer made sure that everyone knows who made the beautiful hoverboard. In addition to the safety certification, riding modes, and overall riding experience, these customizations make the Swagtron T5 a beautiful electric scooter.

Features

Motor and Battery

The Swagtron T5 hoverboard is fitted with two powerful motors with a rating of 200W. The motors are capable of a speed of 7 miles per hour, driven by a Lithium-ion battery pack. The twin 200 watt motors can also climb an incline of up to 30° while upright, thanks to its gyroscopic technology. They are so adept that we started calling them power-houses.

The Swagtron T5 hoverboard is capable of a 7 miles trip on a single charge and has a charging time of under 3 hours. Our experts also loved it because of the sentry shield battery protection. It protects the board from exploding and protects the rider. The body is also made of high quality, flame retardant material for an extra layer of protection. The hoverboard has two LED battery indicators for charging status and power percentage.

Our team also loved that we could unscrew the back and replace the T5’s battery. You wont be worrying of how to fix hoverboard charging issuesIt gave us more flexibility and increased our run time. With two batteries, you can get more than 12 miles at a go.

Speed

Being a budget hoverboard, the Swagtron T5 can only travel as fast as 7 mph. You may experience slower speeds on inclined surfaces or rough terrain. Rider weight also affects the speed and performance of the Swagtron T5 hoverboard.

You can vary your preset speed by changing riding modes. The Swagtron T5 has a learning mode and a standard mode. The learning mode is for kids who haven’t mastered the self balancing scooter and want to practice without falling.

When you’re comfortable with the self balancing scooter, switch to the standard mode for a hands-free fun.

Range

During our Swagtron T5 review, we found that the hoverboard has a 7 mile range. However, it depends on factors like speed, charge, and terrain. If you’re going at 7 miles per hour, you may get less range. The same applies to riding on rough terrain and inclined roads. A lower initial charge will also get you less.

Our experts could travel up to 8 miles by going slowly on level terrain and making other adaptations. But most people won’t get the 8 miles; the self balancing scooter usually tops out at 7.

Weight Capacity

The Swagtron T5 hoverboard can carry an individual of 187.4 lbs. This makes it more suited for kids and young individuals making it the best hoverboard for beginners, unlike the Swagtron T1, which can bear a maximum weight of 220 lbs. The Swagtron T1 also surpasses the T5 in speed and distance, since it can reach 8 mph and travel 11 miles on a single charge.

That being said, the Swagtron T5 has numerous merits. For example, it weighs only 18.9 lbs, which is light enough for its target audience to carry. This makes it a great purchase for its product category.

Maneuverability

The T5 Swagtron has a zero turn radius [1], which means it can turn on a dime with little to no space. This feature is handy if you need to change direction while riding.

The hoverboard is also easy to use, thanks to its lean-to-steer controls. Anybody can pick it up in minutes, even if you’ve never ridden one before. You simply lean in the direction you wish to go, and the hoverboard does the rest.

Speaking of ease of use, the T5 is also incredibly agile. It makes up for the lack of speed with an acceleration that’s tough to beat. In slalom, the T5 would defeat most scooters. Our experts believe its agility is a result of its light weight and wheel size.

Modes and Sensor

Hoverboards have gyro sensors that keep them upright. When you ride, they sense which direction you lean and how fast you do it. The sensors control everything you do, from your speed to maneuverability.

One feature we loved about this product was the sensor’s adaptability. If you stumble off the board, the sensors detect your absence and promptly stop the hoverboard.

Portability

The Swagtron T5 hoverboard has average portability. Even though it’s light enough to carry by most riders, it’s too cumbersome to put in a backpack. The hoverboard is 23 inches long and 4.2 inches wide. The best way to transport it is either by carrying or putting it in a car trunk.

Other Features

Swagtron T5 hoverboard riders have tons of customization options. Mightyskins, a custom skins manufacturer, has various designs that are compatible with the T5 hoverboard. These range from simple baseball patterns to dazzling mystic flames.

One thing we wished this hover board had was Bluetooth speakers. Most manufacturers have a hover board fitted with speakers for rider entertainment. The Swagtron T5 hover board also lacks a smartphone app. Interestingly, the Swagtron T580, a T5 variation, has a smartphone app that allows you to switch your riding mode, check battery level, and perform other cool functions.

Safety Features

We’ve established that the Swagtron hover board is an incredible product. But is it safe? We conducted several Swagtron T5 reviews to answer that question. Our team of experts found that Swagtron is UL 2272 certified.

The UL 2272 certification is awarded to mobility devices like hoverboards, scooters, and skateboards such as the WowGo2S which have met safety standards. This means that the Swagtron T5’s speeds, quality, and power rating are safe for use for a rider.

Additionally, we also found that this hoverboard is one of the safest UL certified hoverboards on the market during our Swagtron T5 review. Our team determined this by comparing safety properties. We looked at the flame retardant build, ride mode, ease of use, and travel range.

One thing we were not pleased about was the absence of safety lights. Without lights, it’s difficult to identify riders at night, increasing the hoverboard’s risk profile. To avoid potential accidents, it’s better to only ride in areas with lots of environmental lighting.

Customer Support

Hoverboard reviews are incomplete without talking about customer support. Customer care can help you with everything from battery issues to motor malfunctions.

Our findings suggest that customer care may also be the only way to fix your Swagtron hoverboard issues. Most repair stores are unwilling to accept the boards because of their sophistication. Thankfully, Swagtron support is easy to contact, and they are usually accommodating.

Price and Warranty

The Swagtron T5 hoverboard has a solid build with great specs for a product in its category. It can match most budget and top electric skateboard or hoverboards in performance, speed, and charging pace. It’s an absolute steal for all its perks. Close competitions like T3 cost more but only offer marginally better features.
